How the calculator works
The maths is simple and transparent:
- Cigarettes per year = cigarettes per day × 365.
- Disposable cost = (cigarettes per year ÷ cigarettes per filter) × price per filter.
- Reusable cost = holder price + (cigarettes per year ÷ cigarettes per insert) × price per insert. After year one you drop the holder price.

Disposable vs reusable - which is cheaper?

How much do cigarette filters cost per year?
It depends on how much you smoke and how many cigarettes you get from each filter. As an example, 15 cigarettes a day at ~4 cigarettes per filter and $0.05 per filter works out around $68 a year for disposables. Use the calculator with your own numbers.
Are reusable cigarette filters cheaper?
For heavy daily smokers a reusable holder is usually cheaper per cigarette over a year, because you only buy small refill inserts after the one-off holder cost. For light smokers the saving is smaller. The calculator shows the gap for your habits.
